I think Percy borrowed that wrench.

The star of the comic; a short young man who aspires to become Santa Claus. An adept inventor who has begun to incorporate alien technology into his designs. Currently a biochem major at Edona College. Dating Nikki. Fun Fact: His middle initials spell “pew”, a smell often associated with mad science.

It may be entirely possible that I like coming up with fake names of real things…
Also, playing with GIMP a bit; the settings have changed since before the hiatus and I’m running into difficulties. I have no idea why the first panel looks so different.
Lastly, I will be moving the update schedule to Sundays starting next week. This will work more convenient for me, plus Sunday comics are awesome.
Have fun!

Three years, baby! Never thought I’d make it this far (and yes, I say that every year, ’cause it’s true).
The original plan was that each year would be a year in college. Given that last year was…spotty…, despite starting the fourth year of comics, this starts the third year of school for Percy, Nikki, and Jorocks (and Chris’s second).
I am also switching to a once-a-week schedule. While I’m not a first-year teacher any more (thank GOODNESS), being a teacher in general is chaotic enough that I can only promise once-a-week updates for the time being. As such, I’m adjusting the scripting to fit in more. Most of you have probably read a strip where story arcs are well written but drag out forever due to the update schedule. Really cool for archive binges, but it’s hard to remember what’s going on week-to-week. I will be keeping this in mind as I plan out the junior year. As for the title, all I have to say is that I felt it was high time to really make use of the comic name. This is gonna be a blast!
Have fun!

And thus draws an end to this story arc after over a YEAR! I felt that it was a good story arc, but technical problems and life sure didn’t…
And oh geez, the proportions on this strip… Still getting used to the iPad for drawing, as you can tell. Not sure what happened to Jorocks in Panel 2, but didn’t have time to redo it. Luckily, I think the dialogue makes up for it! Incidentally, the Reese’s Pieces joke was totally unscripted; it was meant as a one-shot joke the first time and stuck around. I enjoyed it.
Spoofy Randomness will be on hiatus (yes, again, but this one is planned!) starting next week. The next few weeks are going to be very chaotic, as I am traveling to Michigan to work for a national Scouting event, moving into a house with my wife, and starting a new school year. The MAIN reason for the hiatus, however, is to build up a buffer. Spoofy Randomness will return August 31st on a weekly basis on Fridays, and my goal is to consistently update throughout the next year!
Until next time, have fun!

And once again we are back! You may have noticed a change in quality between the last comic and this one. Two reasons: being out of practice (oops) and the fact that this is the first of likely many to be drawn on the iPad. Not exactly the GREATEST drawing tool out there, but for an amateur cartoonist it works well enough and cuts down production time considerably. The latter is a VERY glorious thing.
The future of the comic is as follows: Updates regularly on Fridays until the current arc is over, then the comic will be on hiatus until August 31 to allow me to build a buffer back up (and deal with moving into a house, the National Order of the Arrow Conference, and the start of school). At that point, Spoofy Randomness will be updating once a week on Fridays, and I hope to keep the comic regular at that point.
Have fun!

This 4 month update thing seems to be the theme right now… Oh well, summer vacation is coming up, which means lots of free time when I’m not getting married…or moving…or working the TV staff at the National Order of the Arrow Conference… Crap.
Anyway, Chris’s dad. I realized that Spoofy Randomness suffers from the same fate as many comics involving high school or college students: the lack of any adults whatsoever. This is one reason why EGS is particularly interesting; there are adults often actively involved. I’ve had a few, Sheriff Whitebucket and Thomas Gabriel, and the presence of Nikki’s parents are implied (and probably tactfully left when Percy came; they’re considerate like that), but if there was such an injury one would think that the parents would be a little more active, hence the presence of Mr. Raefish. His designed is heavily based off of his son (just look at the tufts of hair, the eyes, and the nose). In Panel 2, however, he unintentionally wound up with an enlarged chin that makes me think of the main character in American Dad. I think it makes him look important, so I attempted to run with this in Panel 4, but it didn’t quite have the same result.
Also, start your bets on how often I’ll forget to draw Chris’s cast. If you recall when I had to draw one before, I often forgot it and had to add it in during editing.
Finally, I have a blog now! I’m told that’s the cool thing to do nowadays. What’s that? My source is from 5 years ago? Well, nuts. Anyway, you can find A Tale of a Long Fellow here, and it has been updating more frequently than this comic does!
Have fun!

Somehow, I don’t think that’s what Nikki had in mind. But remember, Percy doesn’t know WHY Chris activated that emergency rocket; he only knows why it went off.
Anyway, welcome back and happy New Year! It’s been a while! Working my way through my first year of teaching with six different classes each day; on the days I haven’t gone straight to bed I’ve been too fried to think about drawing. I do want to at least finish off this story arc, though, so hopefully you’ll see a few more comics in the coming months. I haven’t been COMPLETELY dead to the webcomic world over the past few months (although I was rather disappointed to not participate in the webcomic Secret Santa this year). I drew a guest strip for John Troutman’s Lit Brick (you may know him as the author of Mary Elizabeth’s Sock and Sporkman). My comic can be found here (be warned that Lit Brick tends to be a bit more risque than Spoofy Randomness).
Have fun!

Ref: TWO YEARS, BABY! | Gosh, hasn’t my art gotten better? | Deadly Invention
First of all, HAPPY BIRTHDAY SPOOFY RANDOMNESS! Two years ago, the first comic aired! What started off as mostly a joke and a personal challenge to myself to draw better (I haven’t taken art since elementary school), I doubted if it would last even two months. And here we are, two years later! With regular updates…yeah…
Okay, so the past four weeks… I had to send my computer back to Circuit City, then got internet from Windstream while I was using my school computer. Windstream really torked me off with poor service, then they cut off my internet after 5 days and refused to tell me why after multiple phone calls, so I promptly cut off any business with them. It took me three weeks to finally get internet installed in my apartment (went through Time Warner, if anyone cares), then my mouse died. SO… Over a month later, HERE WE ARE. Due to time constraints, I have changed the update schedule to Wednesdays only.
Now, this comic. I tried a new way of editing that basically combines the steps of inking and editing together…and took twice as long. I’m going to try it for a little longer to see if I can get used to it, but it may be out before long. However, look back to two years ago and compare my artwork from now and then. WOW. I was very happy with this strip when I drew it.
Have fun!

May I just take this moment to stand on my little soapbox (is there even such a thing anymore?) and say that I was REALLY pleased with the artwork of this comic. It’s no Clan of the Cats, but by my standards it looks pretty darn good. Take a look back at this strip. I’ve come a long way, especially when you consider that I have not taken any art class since elementary school.
Anyway, about the comic. I felt that Nikki as an elf was appropriate, given her literary background and the fact that a good chunk of said background would be fantasy novels (she’s dating a guy who wanted to be Santa; there’s gotta be imagination there!). I like the design for her (even if I had to steal some of Dan Shive’s hair fairies).
Have fun!
