More Danger
Ref: Fedoraphone | Leonardo | Everybody in this town knows each other
First off, my disclaimer. This comic has been scripted for over a year now, so any connection with current events is purely by chance. I seriously debated about postponing this arc after the Joplin tornadoes and now with the Missouri and Mississippi River floods, but after a poll on Facebook I decided to continue.
This is the first time I’ve gotten to use the SketchUp of Leonardo; I really like how it turned out! You can probably expect to see that one more often.
Also, correct me if I’m wrong, but I believe this is the first time Jorocks and Sheriff Whitebucket have met.
Have fun!

Rescue Mission
The sky’s gotten dark at Greenpath now as the storm rolls in. I probably could have made that clearer, but meh.
As you’ll notice on the calendar, there was no update for Thursday. I have two very good reasons. One, grad school is intensive, especially with 12 credits in six weeks. Two, I got a job! I’m FINALLY employed! So I consider that a very legitimate excuse.
Have fun!

Realization
Ref: The headphones and hat left behind
Commentary
I wanted to use a comedic effect to actually be applied realistically, so in this case I used the comedic “run away while leaving hat/headsets behind” and had it actually happen. I also like the effect of Panel 4. It has a good sense of doom. Also, it came to my attention that this comic is the first time in an actual comic that Percy has been seen in the new hair drawing style (even though it’s practically entirely covered up). I’ve used it in splash pages before, as well as the recent bonus comic (which is where it was pointed out). I have been sketching him like this for over a month, but between the arc being focused on Nikki and Chris lately and the far-too-long hiatus, it hadn’t been shown yet. Jorocks also has a new hair drawing style.

Flight
My art in this comic… I like Panel 1; added the greyscale to show the remains of the explosion and the car shooting out of it is pretty awesome, if I do say so myself. Panel 2, on the other hand… I cannot draw overhead views very well, and I am not satisfied with it. But it’s like a sandwich, because I really like the detail of the trees in Panel 3 and the font is nifty. The only thing I dislike about that panel is the furrow that the car plowed when it hit; I feel that could have been made clearer.
Also, Nikki’s line amuses me to no end. As potential last words go, that one is pretty high on the list. I probably shouldn’t be amused by potential last words…

Rage Against The Computer
So the reasons for the delays… I missed one comic (Thursday, May 12th) due to the graduation festivities of that week, and I planned to make it up that Friday when I had some free time. I boot up my computer, read my morning webcomics, and start typing up thank-you letters for a job interview when *poof* everything is gone. Computer is dead. After many choice words, I take it in to the college help desk, where they inform me that my motherboard is FRIED. I find out that despite Circuit City going out of business, the warranties are still good and I have just a couple weeks before it runs out (talk about a close call). I send it off to Texas, where it was to return in 10 days. On the 11th day, they shipped it back…meaning they hit Memorial Day weekend and it took a total of 15 days to return. When I got it back last week, I realized that my installation CD for my computer was at home and I was in the dorm, hence the further delay (and they wiped my hard drive; I’m glad I bought a backup external last fall!). Note that this long-winded story does not even cover all of the computer problems I’ve had since graduation…
Anyway, due to my frustration with computers this bonus comic was born. Not my usual quality by any means, but it’s a bonus comic. Not just any bonus comic, but one that takes place at Mad University, the location of one of my favorie webcomics (now defunct). In panel order, apologies to Teague Tysseling of Mad About U. for Cricket and the general setting, Pete Abrams of Sluggy Freelance for Riff and the laser cannon, Christopher Wright of Ubersoft for the Dark Lord of Ubersoft, Ryan Smith of Funny Farm for Emperor PC (and my joke about PC’s design being outdated. I don’t think an updated design would look nearly as awesome, by the way), and Jeff Darlington of General Protection Fault for Professor Wisebottom.

Explosive Tornado
And finally, after nearly a MONTH without comics (more about that later), Spoofy Randomness returns with a bang! I may restructure the archives so that this story arc flows together smoother for those who happen to stumble upon this comic some later day. So the reasons for the delays… I missed one comic (Thursday, May 12th) due to the graduation festivities of that week, and I planned to make it up that Friday when I had some free time. As a reward for your patience, I have drawn a bonus comic.

More Than One Tornado
Oh snap. There’s more than one. By the way, I feel that I should point out that Chris’s car is just off to the side in Panel 3; that is where they are running to. Also, Nikki hadn’t seen the tornado until Panel 3; she just noticed the wind change and went to Chris’s expertise.
This comic is based off of a video I saw at my first Central Plains Severe Weather Symposium. Jeff Piotrowski had been filming one tornado when suddenly the wind shifted and he realized there was another one much closer behind him.
From an artistic point of view, there were two issues. One was Panel 4; I didn’t want to actually show the characters, just their headsets and Chris’s hat comedically flying off as they take off running, but it didn’t seem like enough. While my blowing dust at the bottom of the panel may not be the most artistic, I felt that it did at least fill in some white space, so I am satisfied with it. The other issue was whether to go greyscale on this comic. The problem with this arc is that it is supposed to be dark due to the storm and the fact that it is evening, but if I make the backgrounds black, then the tornado isn’t visible. I think it is fine to be black and white for this comic, but I think I’m going to be forced to switch soon…
Have fun!
